Corporate Responsibility Strategy

At Malta International Airport, we take a dual approach to corporate responsibility, focusing on two main priorities:

  • Managing our impact by measuring and monitoring our negative environmental, social and economic effects while enhancing the positive ones.
  • Investing in the islands’ tourism product by channelling external investments through the not-for-profit Malta Airport Foundation.

Managing Our Impact

Chaired by the Chief Executive Officer and composed of a cross-sectional representation of the Company’s departments, our Corporate Responsibility (CR) Committee oversees initiatives, including the Company’s philanthropic work, that help us operate more responsibly.

  • Alan Borg, CEO, Committee Chairman
  • Kevin-James Fenech, Business Advisor, Committee Secretary
  • Alexia Aquilina, Head of People & Culture, responsible for the GRI social category
  • Justine Baldacchino, Head of Sustainability & Analytics, responsible for the GRI economic & environmental categories
  • Lorna Refalo, Marketing & Communications Representative
  • Victoire Muscat, Procurement Representative
  • Clint Abela, Finance Representative
  • Jean-Marie Darmanin, Airport Operations Representative
  • Mark Duca, Guest Member

One key initiative in helping us manage our impact has been the voluntary publication of annual sustainability reports aligned with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards. These independently audited reports allow us to track our progress and remain transparent about our environmental, social, and economic performance. We believe that strong governance helps us deliver better results for all, and seek to implement policies and practices that support our decision-makers in serving the best interests of our stakeholders.

The Malta Airport Foundation

Independent from the airport’s operations, the Malta Airport Foundation ensures that our investments support other organisations in realising projects that safeguard Malta’s environmental, cultural and artistic heritage, ensuring that what makes our islands unique is preserved for present and future generations.

Creating Shared Value

Together, these initiatives help us create shared value, ultimately contributing to the long-term success of our Company within the wider tourism industry.
